Destiny

The birds sang to her of the joys to be found in the freedom of flight.
She listened carefully as she wandered recklessly in dusk's fading light.
The song touched her soul, and her heart ache with a desire so strong,
She trembled with the need to fly free and let go of all that made her life wrong.

She ran breathlessly through endless paths with ne'er a thought but one.
How to run from destiny and yet hold on to rewards of battles already won.
Destiny is not a game of chance, one that allows for choices to be unmade.
She ran until she could run no more. The lake of remembrance is where she laid.

She stared into the mysteries that lie within the reflections of the rising sun.
She saw many possibilities of her that she never had a chance to become.
Hidden behind all those possibilities was Destiny reaching out to her.
She lay frozen before the reflection, not knowing whether to reach in or to demur.

The paths have been clearly drawn for her to follow if she so choose to do.
Yet, even as the allure of a new her tempts her to follow, a sudden awareness is renew.
For who would she be if she followed a path that did not contain these battles fought?
Would she be any better than the woman she's become from all that life
has taught?
